Topeka.

We got up we early on an overcast day and headed toward Mom and Rich’s in Topeka. Upon our arrivle we were greeted by two unfamiliar faces. Orange and gray fury faces. Good thing too because they made it easy to pass the time while we waited on mom who was at the courthouse taking care of some business. These two kittens were full of life and were very loveable and entertaining.

I explored around the nine acres and called Z down to the garden to see if there was anything growing. Sure enough there were a few cherry tomatoes a bell pepper and a couple hot peppers. The sweet tomatoes warmed by the sun tasted wonderful and the bell pepper too.

Grandma and Delbert both had there significant others pass this year. Both are able to keep on keeping on. Delbert is a farmer from down the street. I love talking with him about farming and the industry itself. Good people.

We went to Gage Park where where they have all these awesome concrete animals from when I was a little kid. I’ve always wanted to take Z there and we finally got to make that happen. After that we unveiled my Grandparents prize possession from as far back as I can remember. There pastel yellow 68 convertible bug. Now that I’ve recently purchased a bug of my own I’ve sort of put my claim on this one as well.

This is a pic of the bug from way back. That’s me in the baseball hat with Grandma (pictured above) and Grandpa in the far back.

We went to Topeka Steak House to celebrate Rich’s 71st birthday. Here he is outside in the courtyard of the house playing with Z while we loaded up the car with Mom’s old ebleskiver pan and some fresh basil picked from the yard. One week later I got a call from Mom that he had passed away in the backyard. We’re so thankful we at least got that last bit of time with him. I guess the moral to the story is that death can hit us at any moment so take the time to see family and friends and cherish every moment of life with the people you love.
