Once J heard it was going to cool off this past weekend she put it in the books that we were going hiking. She’d been pumping Z up all week prior so they were super excited and ready to go. But when the cool weather became rainy weather grumpy pants (me) was like, why are we going to the park, its raining? No one goes to the park when it’s raining. That may be true but when the rain breaks you get to be the lucky few at the park that get to enjoy the post rain, less crowded scene (because I’m almost certain everyone was going to hit the park the one day of summer it was not going to hit 100+ degrees outside). Let’s just say it was gorgeous. The wet wood from the boardwalk, the wet trees and wet bushes made the whole place smell like Colorado. If you haven’t smelled the desert after a rain your seriously missing out. Plus Calico Basin has this awesome boardwalk that keeps you off the natural habitat so everything is preserved and untouched. Mother nature was drinking it up and coming out of her hole. Spiders, flowers, birds, everything. The actual park is called Red Springs and it has bathrooms and picnic tables if you want to bring a lunch.
Little Z and her specimens.
